PROFILE

Professor Alan T Cheng is an Otolaryngologist/ENT surgeon fellowship trained and experienced in paediatric otolaryngology at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead since 1997. Reknown for his work in paediatric airway surgery, he has also conducted and continues to conduct research on otitis media, rhino sinusitis, adenotonsillar disease, sleep disordered breathing and obstructive sleep apnoea, along with innovative management of neonatal and infantile airway disorders such as glottic webs, glottal diastasis, laryngotracheal reconstruction and laryngeal reinnervation. Attached to the University of Sydney, he continues to head the training of future paediatric otolaryngologists at the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network in Australasia.

Professor Cheng was appointed to this position, and continues the legacy of Professor Bruce Benjamin, Edward Beckenham and John Curotta. The department includes 7 other paediatric otolaryngologists, and has close working relationships with the various medical disciplines and allied health.

Fellowship trained and continues to practice ENT Surgery in Canterbury Hospital, Strathfield Private and Westmead Private (Ramsay Health) and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Previous Head of Department at Canterbury Hospital 2005-2018; Medical Advisory Committee at Strathfield Private Hospital 2013-present; Previous President of ANZSPO 2009-2013.
Ad-Hoc committee, Paediatric ORL, IFOS — 2015-present
Professor Cheng has acted as the international chairperson for the paediatric ORL subcommittee for IFOS and helped developed the scientific program for IFOS Paris 2017.
